Clock-in, Clock-out
This use case demonstrates how to implement a secure and lightweight web-based solution for time tracking in retail operations – as a complement to Quinyx for workforce scheduling and time management. Time tracking that is both secure, thanks to robust authentication mechanisms, and easy to use is a challenge for retail employees who do not have their own computer or email address.
The starting point: Lack of security authentication
The software solution Quinyx is being introduced for workforce scheduling and time management. However, the provided web punch application for clock-in and clock-out does not offer sufficient security authentication for time bookings in store environments. Alternative approaches such as physical terminals or a mobile application on personal devices are explicitly not desired.
What does our solution look like? Simple web-based time tracking
A lean CAP-based application enables simple and user-friendly web-based time recording. Employees – including temporary staff without their own email address – can securely authenticate and reliably perform their time bookings. The solution uses a lightweight SAPUI5-based web frontend, OData integration, and SAP Identity Authentication Service (IAS) as the central identity provider. In three steps, this means:

- Lightweight CAP-Based Web Application
Develops a streamlined CAP application for secure and efficient web-based time tracking. - Secure Authentication with SAP IAS
Uses SAP Identity Authentication Service as a centralized identity provider for reliable employee authentication. - User-Friendly SAPUI5 Frontend
Provides an intuitive web interface based on SAPUI5 or Fiori Elements for easy employee usage across stores.
The result? Innovation beyond the standard
The solution enables secure and scalable employee time booking with minimal operational overhead and a user-friendly experience.
In concrete terms: It ensures reliable authentication for all employee groups, offers intuitive clock-in and clock-out processes, and eliminates the need for complex hosting requirements and additional hardware costs.
