UX Transformation in the SAP World
Our BTP Squad had the pleasure of taking part in the SAP Fiori Innovation Day at the SAP AppHaus in Heidelberg – just around the corner from the sovanta headquarters. Together with our customer Contintenale Versicherungsverbund, we had the opportunity to speak on stage about “Rapid Evolution from Dino-SAP to Future-Proof BTP: SAP Fiori, Custom Code, and a Touch of UX Magic”. Christian Heinrich, our Chief Solutions Officer, also took part in a panel discussion on SAP UX. Lately we have been talking a lot about SAP BTP and Clean Core on stage. It was really time to put the focus back on the UX perspective. At the end of the day, all these topics are connected – they are all essential parts of creating a modern and effective SAP ecosystem. UX Transformation is a continuous journey
UX transformation is not a one-time change and is not tied to any single technology or system. It’s about constantly improving and adapting to new tools and user expectations over time. User experience has many facets: In addition to the usability of a digital product, aesthetics, emotions, and technical aspects play a decisive role. Only by examining an application from the user’s perspective you can find out whether it is really good and where the investment in optimizations is worthwhile. From our experience, it takes leapfrog projects to get started with UX and, ideally, the support of a UX champion like sovanta.
There’s no excuse for not delivering a great UX for SAP
SAP offers a wide range of tools and technologies to help companies create excellent user experiences. From Fiori, UI5, and Mobile Start to SAP Build and Work Zone, these tools allow businesses to provide solutions that improve productivity and add real business value. It is important to gain UX experience before a large S4 project. Otherwise it will be dropped during the stressful implementation phase. A great success story: On stage we revealed how we helped our customer Contintenale Versicherungsverbund to successfully replace a 20-year-old WebDynpro self-service with a modern HR landscape with SAP Fiori Apps and SAP BTP.
Short and long-term Impact of AI on UX
AI has already started transforming UX by automating tasks and integrating recommendations, which helps simplify the user experience and makes workflows more efficient. And there is a long-term Impact of AI: a new way of using business software. In the future, AI has the potential to completely change how we use business software. We could even reach a point where traditional user interfaces are no longer needed, and assistants like Joule provide and intuitive way of accessing the system and offer the information in the best fitting format for the scenario.
Urgency of starting UX transformation now
With younger generations joining the workforce, expectations for modern, intuitive software are higher than ever. Starting UX transformation now is essential for companies to stay relevant and meet these evolving user demands. And, gaining experience in UX processes and tools is a great preparation for future S/4HANA and RISE projects. It’s an exciting time for UX in SAP, with so many possibilities ahead!
