In this context, operational tables, CDS views, or API outputs only become production-grade data products with a platform character through deliberate curation, harmonization, governance, and lifecycle management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"image-card-with-buttonblock_936d09ce8d73ad0b9140dbc128989903\" class=\"block__image-card-with-button -detect-in-viewport has-background has-seashell-background-color image-card\">\n      \n  \n\n<p>At its core, a Data Product consists of four closely integrated layers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Data:<\/strong> the core business information (e.g., sales orders or financial transactions)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Code:<\/strong> logic for ingestion, transformation, cleansing, and provisioning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Infrastructure:<\/strong> the underlying storage and processing platform<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Metadata &amp; Governance<\/strong>: description, lineage, ownership, quality, and access control<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<p>The general principle is: responsibility for the creation and management typically lies with internal IT organizations, SAP itself, or selected partner companies such as <a href=\"https:\/\/sovanta.com\/en\/\">sovanta<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Usage of Data Products: Intelligent Applications vs. Custom Data Products<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SAP-managed Data Products &amp; Intelligent Applications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>SAP provides a growing number of curated Data Products in the Business Accelerator Hub. Instead, data remains in the source system and is accessed directly\u2014for example via SAP HANA Cloud, SAP Databricks, Enterprise Databricks, or SAP Analytics Cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Object-store-based architecture<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, data is stored in a modern object-store environment optimized for scalable read access and large data volumes. This forms the technological foundation for modern data lake architectures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Foundation services<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Complementary central services automatically handle:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Extraction from source systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Harmonization and integration of data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delta-based replication and updates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This ensures that Data Products remain consistent, up to date, and performant in consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ORD metadata (Open Resource Discovery)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, Data Products are self-describing through standardized metadata, including in particular:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Structure, fields, and business semantics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Authorizations and visibility rules<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Versioning and lifecycle information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dependencies and integration context<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On this basis, governance, discoverability, and integration into data catalogs and platforms such as the Business Accelerator Hub are enabled.gration in Datenkataloge sowie Plattformen wie den Business Accelerator Hub erm\u00f6glicht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"image-card-with-buttonblock_dcb62a957c1d0a8fa46f3f781956f81c\" class=\"block__image-card-with-button -detect-in-viewport image-card\">\n      \n  \n\n<p><strong>Prerequisite:<\/strong> Creating and operating Data Products requires an SAP Datasphere configuration with Object Store (minimum 128 GB memory).<\/p>\n\n\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.1 Data Product Generation (BW-Feature)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The BW-based Data Product Generator enables the direct creation of Data Products from existing BW objects such as ADSOs, CompositeProviders, or MultiProviders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of Q2 2026, the previous detour via the Data Sharing Cockpit will be eliminated in this context. In addition, a new query template simplifies the transfer of existing BEx and BW logic into SAP Business Data Cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"image-card-with-buttonblock_936d09ce8d73ad0b9140dbc128989903\" class=\"block__image-card-with-button -detect-in-viewport has-background has-seashell-background-color image-card\">\n      \n  \n\n<p><strong><strong>Architecture &amp; consumption overview:<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Storage as a read-only Data Product in the object store<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Management via Foundation Services (extraction, harmonization, delta handling)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Zero-copy consumption via APIs, events, or delta sharing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full ORD integration for governance and discovery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Catalog integration, including visibility in the Accelerator Hub<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Value and use cases<\/strong>:<br>This approach is particularly suited for companies that want to quickly and efficiently transition existing BW logic into modern, productized data structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.2 Custom Data Products via Data Sharing Cockpit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With SAP Datasphere, custom Data Products can be created, shared, and optionally published in the Data Marketplace via the Data Sharing Cockpit. This includes both SAP and non-SAP data sources, which can be integrated into object-store environments such as S3, GCS, Azure Data Lake, or Confluent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"image-card-with-buttonblock_936d09ce8d73ad0b9140dbc128989903\" class=\"block__image-card-with-button -detect-in-viewport has-background has-seashell-background-color image-card\">\n      \n  \n\n<p><strong><strong>Architecture &amp; consumption:<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Storage in scalable object-store data lakes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Zero-copy access via APIs, events, and delta sharing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Automatic generation of ORD metadata<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tight integration with the Business Accelerator Hub<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Value and use cases<\/strong>:<br>This approach is suitable for rapid data provisioning, internal data cataloging, data-driven monetization, and hybrid SAP\/non-SAP scenarios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.3 Data Product Studio (future standard)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Data Product Studio will become the central interface for creating, versioning, and managing Data Products across system boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The planned MVP (Q2\/Q3 2026) includes, among others:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Creation based on 1:1 mappings on object-store tables<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>End-to-end versioning and lifecycle management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Multi-system deployment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cataloging and semantic linking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Introduction of interface Data Products with predefined target structures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"image-card-with-buttonblock_936d09ce8d73ad0b9140dbc128989903\" class=\"block__image-card-with-button -detect-in-viewport has-background has-seashell-background-color image-card\">\n      \n  \n\n<p><strong><strong>Architecture &amp; consumption:<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Storage in the object store with automated delta handling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Zero-copy consumption analogous to SAP-managed Data Products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full ORD metadata integration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Standardized Data Product factory for enterprise-scale usage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Target vision<\/strong>:<br>The Data Product Studio will establish itself as the strategic standard for industrialized Data Product management at enterprise level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Delta sharing with external systems (e.g., Databricks)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When integrating external delta-sharing sources, SAP Datasphere relies on additional semantic information:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>ORD metadata:<\/strong> description, title, and catalog entry in Open Resource Discovery format<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>CSN schema:<\/strong> translation of table structures into SAP\u2019s internal data model<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Publish step:<\/strong> activation of the Data Product for catalog and marketplace visibility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In short: the technical share establishes connectivity\u2014only thr<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Summary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Data Products form the foundation of a modern, scalable, and semantically consistent data architecture.
