Machine learning and digital assistants

sovanta® at the 19th DSAG-Jahreskongress in Leipzig.

Nov 02, 2018

Under the motto „Business without frontiers – the architecture of the future”, SAP users made their way to this year’s DSAG-Jahreskongress in Leipzig. During the three fair days, more than 5,000 visitors – participants record – exchanged thoughts about Internet of things, digitalization and business transformation. One question was in the focus of that exchanges: how can existing architectures be opened out to pave the way for concepts like machine learning or blockchain? Food for thought and answers were given in numerous keynotes, sessions and partner presentations.

As a member of DSAG e. V. and experts for the digitalization of business processes, of course, we were also on site and eagerly discussed – at our fair booth and also on stage during our two talks.

sovanta topic session: “Machine learning as the basis for cross selling of the next generation at Endress+Hauser”

On the second day of the fair, Dr. Tommi Kramer, Head of Data Science at sovanta, presented an exciting business case together with Endress+Hauser Infoserve. Around 120 interested listeners learned how sovanta was able to successfully increase the cross selling potential of Endress+Hauser products with machine learning.

Briefly summarized: we analysed approx. 560,000 shopping carts in order to gain important insights into the behaviour of current E+H customers. The result was a web application with twelve different prediction models for different countries and industries, which provides product recommendations based on information about customers, purchasing country, industry and shopping basket. The application is also absolutely future-proof, because the model learns from new shopping carts and thus automatically improves the forecasting models. More About data science at sovanta:

sovanta partner presentation: “Chat, voice & digital assistants – how can business bots simplify SAP business applications?”

Later in the day, our second highlight took place - our expert lecture on business bots. Michael Kern, sovanta COO, and Christian Heinrich, sovanta Head of Products, explained in front of an enthusiastic audience how digital assistants are revolutionizing the business world. Especially language assistants are on the rise - numerous devices and assistants can be controlled via the interface of natural language. And this is exactly where our latest product comes in - the sovanta Business Bot. The virtual and intelligent companion offers a wide variety of skills that can be accessed via voice or chat functions. For example, the Business Bot answers employee queries on vacation requests, sick leave and master data maintenance, thus relieving the HR department. And, of course, we also thought about the SAP users in terms of the architecture: all Business Bot skills can also be used in SAP CoPilot. Read more here:

Our conclusion: knowledge exchange, networking and pioneering spirit

This year, DSAG again offered a broad program, which gave representatives of all divisions and industries ample opportunity to exchange experience reports, best practices and updates around the SAP world. One highlight was definitely the evening event on Wednesday!

After three eventful and inspiring days, Akin Aritmac, Head of Customer Engagement at sovanta, sums up: "The exchange with other SAP users shows us that we are dealing with the right topics to shape the digital future - especially when it comes to innovation on the SAP cloud platforms. That's one of the reasons why the participation in the DSAG-Jahreskongress is so important to us."
